DHL Express is a division of Deutsche Post DHL and provides international express mail services. By express mail, we are referring to an accelerated delivery service for which our customers are happy to pay a surcharge in exchange for faster delivery, door to door delivery and the ability to track the shipment online.

In 1969, DHL founders Adrian Dalsey, Larry Hillblom and Robert Lynn (D, H and L) began to personally deliver documents by airplane from San Francisco to Honolulu, beginning customs clearance of the ship’s cargo before the actual arrival of the ship and dramatically reducing waiting time in the harbor. Customers stood to save a fortune. With this concept, a new industry was born: international air express service, the rapid delivery of documents and shipments by airplane.

By the late 1970s, the company had expanded its service throughout the world to include the Pacific Rim, the Far East, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa. DHL also aggressively expanded to countries that could not be served by any other delivery service, including the Eastern Bloc, Vietnam and the People's Republic of China.

In 1998, Deutsche Post began to acquire shares in DHL, finally reaching majority ownership in 2001, and completed the purchase in 2002. Deutsche Post then effectively absorbed DHL into its Express division while expanding the use of the DHL brand to other Deutsche Post divisions, business units and subsidiaries. Today, DHL Express shares its well-known DHL brand with other Deutsche Post business units such as DHL Global Forwarding & Freight and DHL Supply Chain.

The headquarters for DHL Express are now located in Bonn, Germany and the company employs over 500,000 people. The Express division transports courier, express and parcel shipments all over the world, combining air and ground transport, under the DHL brand.
